Cheshire East Council have dictated that parking charges are to be inflicted on anyone using Nelson Pit Car Park at Higher Poynton. This car park is used by a wide range of people and in particular the elderly since the nearby towpath and café are easily accessible to wheelchairs. This car park enables many people to get out into the fresh air. Central government is actively encouraging the public to get into the countryside to improve their health and wellbeing but, Cheshire East Council now want to charge for this right. It is effectively a charge on fresh air. The proposal was drawn up and passed by a councillor not even elected by Poynton constituents. He overruled 137 objections, he overruled the Poynton Town Council and refused to even listen to the Police who raised concerns regards the additional congestion it will create in the area. Furthermore, the Council now admit it will probably cost more to implement and maintain than it will raise in revenue. We say NO to Nelson Pit Parking Charges. Fresh air should not be taxed!
