Get the Cherry Hill Public School District to adopt Solar Panels

The Issue

Did you know Camden County received an F grade for air quality by The American Lung Association in 2018, along with 11 other counties in New Jersey? The Cherry Hill School district contributes to these high pollution levels in our area because of their fossil fuel usage, and students across our school district are exposed to these harmful pollutants. In addition to protecting our students from these dangerous chemicals, it will save Cherry Hill water. While other forms of energy need extra water to function, solar panels do not.

If you're worried about what all of this will cost, keep in mind that 79% of the solar installed on schools was financed by a third party, such as a solar developer. This will allow us to purchase solar energy and receive immediate energy cost savings. Beeler and Van Zant elementary schools, which are just a short drive away, already have solar panel systems, which, according to officials, have saved the district about $30,000 to $35,000 a year at each site. Solar panels will save our district money.

Students in Cherry Hill also want to implement solar energy. Last year Learning Community 6's eighth grade students at Rosa Middle School took a survey, and out of 88 eighth grade students  93.2% thought the school district should implement solar energy. Solar energy could also help the curriculum. 74 out of 77 students at Cherry Hill East (94% -- across all four grades) think that climate change/ global warming education should be implemented at East. Having Solar Energy on the building could improve that.
