Allow Jordan Gudridge to walk at CCHS graduation

Allow Jordan Gudridge to walk at CCHS graduation
The Issue
Imagine progressing through Elementary, Middle, and High school with your best friends and your senior year being told you aren't allowed to have the thrill of walking the stage at graduation. Jordan Gudridge is a senior in high school currently attending Cherry Creek Elevation. Jordan is living with a host family in Madison, Wisconsin as he continues his hockey journey playing for the Madison Capitols of the USHL. This is his first year living away from home and his first steps to a long and successful hockey career. Jordan was recently denied the ability for him to walk with his classmates and peers at the class of 2023 graduation ceremony at Cherry Creek High School. Jordan has attended CCHS Freshman through Junior year and put so much time and effort into his school to make it a better place for him and everyone around him. He does very well in school and looks to help others do the same. When Jordan recently got the opportunity to go and play in the USHL he jumped at the opportunity, but giving it some thought, it scared him. He was going to leave home and with that leave his friends and family. We all gave him our full support as we all want to see him further his hockey career. The one thing that he didn't want to do was to leave all his friends his senior year. He didn't want to miss out on anything. Yet all of his friends and family told him we wanted him to go and make the best of this amazing experience. Having had multiple conversations with Jordan, he always said he wanted to be back for graduation and most importantly walk with all of his classmates at graduation. That is the reason he enrolled in Cherry Creek Elevation. In hopes of being able to change the policy that denies Jordan the right to walk, as it is unfair to him and others in his position. When he was told he could not walk, he was devastated. His parents have gone through many efforts to try and fight this and so far come up unsuccessful, but in doing so, they found out some information which shows how unfair this policy is. Per the current policy, a student who enrolls at CCHS in January of their senior year has more right to walk than Jordan, who has been in the Cherry Creek School district since Kindergarten. Jordan's parents have been trying their best to get this to change, not just for him, but for all other athletes or students who are presented with an opportunity they cannot refuse during their senior year. Jordan will be back in time for Graduation and could even enroll at CCHS the time that he is back for, but still will be unable to walk. He would have to watch as all of his friends and classmates, who he has been with for over 12 years, get to walk while he is denied this simple but important aspect of his life. Everyone remembers their high school graduation and for Jordan, if this does not change, it will be a time he will look to forget. It will be a time that he remembers how he was denied something he has earned just because he had an opportunity to further his career. The purpose of high school is to give someone the materials they need to go on and create a successful career for themselves. That is exactly what Jordan is doing, and he is being denied the right to walk at his own graduation ceremony. On top of all this, Jordan's dad has been with the Cherry Creek School District for over 20 years, and while I'm not asking for them to suddenly change it for someone who works with the district, this policy seems even more unfair for someone who's family has put in countless hours of time and dedication to this district. I know Jordan would greatly appreciate your help in this issue and even if this comes up unsuccessful, at least we can show how much this school takes care of one of their own.
