Stop the term "wrist reveal" at Cherokee County Schools.

"Scanning wrists..." , "wrist reveal!" , "barcode!" , are common phrases we hear at any school. It belittles people's trauma from self harm and makes it sound like a joke. Another problem is that whenever someone reports this happening, the person who said just has to say "I didn't say that." This is an ongoing problem at WMS and other schools in CCSD schools.
You may think " why is this a problem?" 1.This makes self harm seem like a joke and make it seem less serious. 2.Most of these jokes stereotype "emo" people as people who self harm, which is a bad stigma on people who self harm and people who are "emo". 3. If someone makes these kinds of jokes to someone who does struggle with self harm, it can make them think that others want them to do it.
"Isn't it against the rules to say this stuff?" Shockingly no. When I looked through the code of conduct, it said nothing about jokes of sensitive subjects. This is why teachers turn a blind eye to it most of the time.
What needs to be added: A rule about jokes about sensitive/traumatic experiences - Under no discretion will you be allowed to joke about sensitive subjects or traumatic experiences (ex. Self harm, abuse, rape, sexual harassment, etc)
In conclusion, this rule could drastically boost people's mental health and make people feel more safe at school without self harm jokes, rape jokes, or anything that could mentally degrade them. Let's change the school and make it a better place for everyone.
