Check and Connect-Prevent the Termination of a Vital School Program for at-risk Students

Check and Connect-Prevent the Termination of a Vital School Program for at-risk Students
The Issue
As a concerned parent, I've witnessed firsthand how essential it is to have specific programs that cater to students struggling in a conventional classroom. The targeted program Check and connect with Miss Michelle at isd 709 middle schools cater to children with 504 learning plans or Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). Among such students is my son, diagnosed with depression, anxiety, and ADHD. This program has been instrumental for him.
Upon joining the program, my son's fluctuating grades soared, his sporadic attendance normalized, and most importantly, his passion for education re-ignited. Thanks to the dedicated staff, especially his favourite, Miss Michelle, the program is more than just an educational aid to my son; it is his sanctuary.
Regrettably, this program is facing a premature termination at the hands of the school administration. Around 14% of Public School students receive special education services under the IEP, as per The National Center for Education Statistics. Programs like ours are providing necessary inclusivity for these students, bestowing upon them the same opportunities as their peers—an opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
Urgently, we call on the school administration and education policymakers to reconsider their decision to cut this irreplaceable program and ensuring continued support for our children, who deserve an education system that accommodates their needs. Please sign this petition, stand up for these exceptional children, and send a clear message that their education matters.
