Update: I started this petition origianlly in 2020 and soon after the Covid pandemic started. So unfortunately it didnt get enoguh attention to reach the decision makers. With enough support from each one of you, we can achive a better place to live, with cleaner soil and water for generations. There are hunderds of apartments in and aroud Charlotte metro area hosuing hundreds of families. If we can save at least one platic bottle per family, even that would be a much bigger number. It doesnt matter if you live in an apartment or not, every vote matters to make the change. 

Origianl Petition:

I live in an apartment community in Charlotte. There were separate blue containers for dropping off household recyclable materials. Recently the apartment stopped collecting recyclable materials. When I asked them about it, they said that the city stopped collecting recyclable items in plastic bags and that's why they also stopped the collection. I don't think it's a valid reason. If there are containers for recycle items, the people who live here can drop it directly in those containers, without having to use plastic bags.

When I contacted Mecklenburg County, I was told that its not mandatory for apartments to collect recyclable materials from the residents, unlike commercial establishments. There could be some apartments providing this service voluntarily, but many of them may not, since its not mandated by law.

I hope that all the environmentally conscious residents in Charlotte, NC will support  this petition to the Mecklenburg County and Charlotte City council to make it mandatory for apartment companies to collect household recyclable items separately. This will help get rid of tons of plastic waste from landfills in and around Charlotte, protecting our creaks, lakes and river.
