With Covid-19 cases surging nationwide, we need a government-mandated shut down to control the spread in Massachusetts. A statewide shutdown similar to that of the Spring is essential to curbing the spread of Covid-19, removing the temptation to go to restaurants, bars, gyms, and other public facilities, and the tendencies of many to shirk social distancing protocol and proper mask-wearing. Without a shutdown, residents will continue to gather and risk themselves and others to Covid-19. Keeping businesses open puts hundreds of thousands of employees in the position of deciding whether to keep going to work and potentially expose themselves to Covid, or to go without income. This is irresponsible and harmful to employees, their families, and the communities they serve. Employees and business owners should receive stimulus assistance from the state of Massachusetts during this time. 

Several other states, including New Mexico, Oregon and others have already implemented two week shutdowns to curb the uncontrolled spread, and Massachusetts must follow.
