Keep our forest full of trees, not towers

Keep our forest full of trees, not towers
Why this petition matters
There is a proposed communication tower to be built in the middle of the Francis Marion National Forest off of Turner Sullivan Road in McClellanville. The tower will stand at 300 feet, obstructing the natural views of the forest and disrupting the surrounding wildlife, including some endangered species of birds. Nature and wildlife enthusiasts come from miles around to take in the beauty that this forest holds. Do we really want to take that away by letting an eyesore, such as a cell tower, be built in such a beautiful place?? How will its look effect the property values in the area?
The Ravenel Bridge from Mount Pleasant into Charleston stands at 200 feet above the water; this tower will stand one hundred feet taller than that! The highest point of the towers on the bridge that can be seen from miles away, stand just over 500 feet. Picture this tower in your backyard at more than half the height of the highest part of that iconic bridge, except not nearly as photogenic. Would you like to look out into your backyard and see something like that? Do you want to see that looming over the forest as you make your way down 17?
Thursday, December 17 there will be a balloon flying to demonstrate how high the tower will stand once built. Help stop this structure from being built by signing this petition or sending a personal email before January 8th, 2021 objecting the construction to planning@charlestoncounty.org. Refer to case # ZSPR-09-20-00512 TMS # 752-00-00-006.
The old saying goes, "don't miss seeing the forest for looking at the trees", but we don't want the new phrase to be, "don't miss seeing the forest for looking at the cell towers"!!
