For years now the Charleston carriage companies have been under attack. They've been met with false information, harassment, intentional spooking of horses, falsely reporting veterinarians and so much more. From the "peaceful" protests that always seem to result in some type of issue. To the giant tacky yellow billboards depicting a thoroughbred type horse pulling a carriage, news flash no company around Charleston is hitching a thoroughbred to a carriage. They use drafts, draft crosses and mules.

The Truth About The Charleston Carriage Horse Industry

We want Charlestons City Council to do away with this "organization". This organization is not only bringing tons of negative attention to our city. They are actively putting hundreds of horses in danger across the country. Yes Charlestons carriage companies rehome their horses to retirement homes, but that's one here and there. (Much like Larry the horse that has been retired that CCHA use on a what seems like weekly basis) Shutting these companies down will create a large number of drafts that will end up homeless. Shutting down all of the countries carriage companies will result in hundreds and hundreds shipping to Mexico or Canada.

Its extremely sad. Yes there are thousands of people who say they will take them in. However if it came down to actually doing it the numbers would be significantly less. It's not cheap caring for horses on top of medical treatment and everyday life. Not to mention there are thousands upon thousands of drafts shipping every day. So its incredibly naive to think that no carriage horse will ship if the companies were to shut down.
