CHARLES DARWIN UNIVERSITY COVERS UP THE WORSE CASE OF ANIMAL CRUELTY IN AUSTRALIAN HISTORY

The Issue

Cows lay dying on the ground, with calves trying to suckle them and a horse's hoof fell off, they were left for ants, dogs and crows to finish off", but NO ONE will be prosecuted!

800 cattle were left to starve to death at the universities training station. There has been no real explanation as to why these animals were left to die.

"It possibly is one of the worst cases of neglect and cruelty that would certainly not be an understatement," said the RSPCA.

"The condition of these animals was really just appalling and the fact that no one intervened in an appropriate manner in an appropriate time frame is really just something that we don't want to see in the future."

The Northern Territory ombudsman has reported some of the station's 4,000 cattle and 36 horses were starved of food and water for long periods.

A Professor (apparently now former) who ran a cattle teaching station for the Charles Darwin University in the Northern Territory, (Australia) is responsible for starving animals to death.

Professor Ian Gray was responsible for a "management system which starved animals to death, he then left animals for  ants, dogs and crows to finish off".

One Professor at the Charles Darwin Univeristy, Dr Brian Heim "dismissed  the animal abuse complaints and said they were trivial and vexatious" and said "what they considered to be cruelty to animals was normal".

Ombudsman Carolyn Richards says the university failed to stop the former station manager of its Mataranka teaching and commercial cattle station, Ian Gray, from starving some of the 4,000 animals to death for several months from September 2009.
