The new Massachusetts Mandatory Mask Order that Governor Charlie Baker has instituted has created a real issue for those of us who love to play tennis. With this new order, intended to understandably create social distancing in places like gym's, we tennis lovers are now forced to wear masks while playing. Tennis is a physically challenging game on its own and masks make playing the game a real problem. Not only does it hinder our ability to breath, it's an even bigger problem for those who wear glasses. As tennis players, whether be it singles or doubles, we are rarely within six feet of each other. On those rare occasions where we happen to be within 6ft of each other in doubles, it may be for only a second or two while we tap rackets instead of a high-five to celebrate a good shot/point. Tennis, pickleball and golf are a few of the safest sports we are able to play during this debilitating pandemic and now it's become nearly impossible to play our favorite sport. Please join me in urging Governor Charlie Baker to make an exception for us tennis players and tennis clubs. We understand the need for masks in order to protect those most susceptible to this virus, but please, allow us to play our beloved sport without them.
