The Issue

A Charles County, Maryland news release (released directly from the Charles County government on 4/22/2021) included a proposed legislation topic of "banning American Pit Bull Terriers in the county". The complaint that initiated this proposal is as follows (in its entirety):

"As a citizen of Charles County, I am concerned by the increasing number of American Pit Bull Terriers in the county.
Prince George's County has enacted a Pit Bull ban within their county. I ask that Legislation be developed to create a
similar ban in Charles County."

There is no justification for this proposed breed-specific ban (BSB) other than this resident is unhappy with the number of pitbull terriers living in the county. This legislation threatens to undermine years of progress made to ensure the safety of our beloved pets.

Please join us in asking the Charles County government to reject this ban. One individual's lack of understanding or experience with a breed shouldn't result in thousands of people losing their family pets. Please help us protect these wonderful dogs!
