I am personally living in a state of disbelief, grappling with the shocking news of a 17-year-old girl in Epping who violently assaulted a 14-year-old child and a 19-year-old security guard, inflicting more than a dozen stab wounds with a knife. This terrifying incident presents a clear case of attempted murder, yet astonishingly, the teenager has not been adequately charged.

The teenager in question has been charged with intentionally and recklessly causing harm among other offences, but not with attempted murder, a charge that correctly reflects the severity of her actions. This disregard for the law's appropriate application gravely undermines justice for the victims and tarnishes the trust we have in our legal system.

It is time to put stricter charges on such severe cases to prevent future malicious acts, showing potential offenders the serious consequences of violent behaviour.

I am compelled into action because I believe that others must know the consequences of such horrific actions. It is on us to not only protect the victims of such acts but also to steer our community towards a safer future.
