The Issue

On April 2, 2025, during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, Hunter and Austin Metcalf allegedly assaulted Karmelo Anthony. In the course of this altercation, Austin Metcalf was fatally stabbed.

While Karmelo Anthony faces murder charges, Hunter Metcalf has not been held accountable, despite allegedly participating in the assault that led to his brother's death.

Under Texas law, if someone dies during the commission of a felony—like an assault—all participants can be charged with murder, regardless of intent. This is known as the felony murder rule.

Under Texas Penal Code § 19.02(b)(3):

A person commits murder if they commit or attempt to commit a felony (other than manslaughter), and in the course of or in furtherance of the commission or attempt, or in immediate flight from it, they commit or attempt to commit an act clearly dangerous to human life that causes the death of an individual.

We demand that the Collin County District Attorney apply this law equally and file appropriate charges against Hunter Metcalf. Justice requires accountability for everyone involved.
