The Issue

On July 18 in Hunt County, Texas, a dog was reportedly beaten so badly it lost a tooth, suffered head trauma, and had ligature marks around its neck — all captured in a deeply disturbing video. The man accused, Eferm Robinson, has been arrested and charged with felony animal cruelty. But unless the justice system takes this seriously, there’s a real risk he could walk away with a slap on the wrist.

This isn’t just about one animal. According to the SPCA of Texas, the dog showed signs of long-term neglect and starvation. The same video that led to Robinson’s arrest now makes it impossible to ignore the violence this animal endured. Yet in so many Texas cases, animal abusers end up with reduced charges, probation, or are even allowed to own pets again.

This time must be different. Hunt County residents — and all of us who care about justice — deserve to see the law upheld to its full extent. The Texas Penal Code classifies this as a third-degree felony. That means real consequences are possible — but only if prosecutors and the courts are willing to pursue them.

We call on the Hunt County District Attorney’s Office to prosecute Eferm Robinson to the fullest extent of the law and to seek a permanent ban on animal ownership. Anything less sends the message that violence against defenseless animals will be tolerated.

That dog is still recovering from trauma no creature should ever experience. This is about more than one case — it’s about setting a standard that cruelty has consequences in Hunt County. Add your name to demand justice.
