Our children deserve better! 

Our children deserve better than having a dad or a mum that just walks out their lives and has no repercussions whilst the child has a lifetime of mental anguish over it. 

Hi, my name is Sam. 
I have a 14 year old son and 5 years ago his dad stopped taking him on a Friday, which he’d done for 7 years previously, because he decided he couldn’t be bothered anymore. Or that’s the assumption anyway as no explanation was given. 
His dad disappeared, best hide and seek player I’ve ever known. 
He left the flat we knew to be his permanent residence and we have not seen him since. 
His family have neither seen him or heard from him and the only thing we know is that he moved in with his girlfriend and her daughter. 

Parents, male or female, should not be allowed to do this to children without any sort of repercussion whilst the child is left with questions and wondering if their parent is still alive. 

My son is amazing. He’s resilient and has been supported through this the best we can. However we do not want to see this happening to other children. 

If parliament creates a deterrent in terms of criminal charges being placed on any mother or father who attempts to abandon their child then perhaps less children will be left with the repercussions of an adults actions!
