Due to the vast and continuing spread of the COVID-19 virus and with the United States currently having 537 confirmed cases and 22 reported deaths, which is bound to increase, we the students of the Chapman University believe that it is of importance for Chapman to take drastic measures. We have a small campus and fear the virus could spread quickly. The State of California has declared a state of emergency; it is the second state in the US that has cases of this virus. Our health is our priority. At this time, we are anxious and fearful about what is happening around the world, and especially since it is spreading nearby. With spring break just a few weeks away, we are aware that many students will be traveling by plane and may be in a position to be exposed and have a high risk of getting infected. We, as a community, want to take the right precautions and avoid the risk. We kindly propose making all our courses online to feel secure in the safety of our homes. All around the world and in the US, many schools and universities have announced that classes will be put off until further notice or changed to teaching courses online. We would appreciate this request to be taken into consideration. We do not want our lives to be put at risk because of the fast spread of the virus and how it is becoming more severe over time and may turn into a global epidemic.
