Changes needed now: stop A41 tragedies.

The Issue

I travel on the A41 every day. One January evening, on my way home from work I was met by a car on the wrong side of the road coming straight towards me. I don’t remember much after the initial impact. In hospital I was informed I had a range of broken bones, cuts and bruises.

I’ve had multiple physio appointments, MRI’s and have been left with reduced mobility all of which could have been prevented. There were no issues around drugs or alcohol. The other driver was simply not paying attention and was on the wrong side of the road.

Not only was my personal life effected but my work as a nurse has been impacted upon.

There are many normal day to day things that I used to take for granted that I struggle with now. A few points and a fine was the only outcome for the other driver.

Other travellers on the A41 will be all too aware of the dangers that face them every day. families are left devastated as a result of the countless numbers of deaths and injuries on the A41. Individuals have to endure pain daily as a result of accident related life long injuries.

I had assisted at an accident site in almost the same location only days earlier.

According to the Bucks Herald there have been 223 deaths on the A41 since 2014.

If a dramatic change is not introduced then the number of fatalities and injuries will increase.

A central island throughout the A41 to prevent overtaking, a major cause of accidents, is required. Speed cameras are required along the A41. Tougher penalties for drivers are required. Careless driving that results in serious injury should be treated as dangerous driving.

Better signage with junction information is required. Reduced speed limits in the more built up areas are required.

Action is needed now to ensure that these tragedies come to an end.
