Toy Story 5 needs to have its title changed from a direct sequel to the first four films and be rebranded and turned into a standalone spinoff for its future home media releases. There is literally no need to have another mainline Toy Story movie. Toy Story 4 showed the perfect ending between Woody and Buzz, and having another numbered sequel just completely ruins that. In my opinion, Toy Story 4 was the perfect end to a perfect franchise. While a lot of people think the ending of Toy Story 3 was perfect, I think Toy Story 4 added something to the franchise that could go beyond 3. Flipping Woody's views on his head is something that I didn't think would happen, but it gave the characters a final, meaningful arc.

Now, Disney has risked that ending with Toy Story 5. It feels like a cash grab from a studio that thinks the only way to recover is to keep making more sequels. But there is a better way to handle this without butchering the ending of Toy Story 4. I acknowledge the film is already released everywhere as Toy Story 5, including its theatrical run and its initial home release on September 22nd. Instead of keeping this project as the official fifth installment in the mainline franchise for the long-term, Disney and Pixar should consider a post-theatrical rebrand for its future home media releases to drop the Toy Story 5 title, and instead slightly re-edit and reposition the film under the separate spinoff title: Toy Story: Toys vs Tech.

This would be a smart business move because it would allow the studio to still preserve all of the finished footage, animation, and digital assets without wasting the incredible work already done by Pixar's animators. By executing this rebrand for its future home media releases and changing the title on all streaming platforms like Disney Plus to Toy Story: Toys vs Tech at the same time the movie gets future pressings on physical media, Disney could reduce the risk of long-term brand damage and consumer backlash tied specifically to a "Toy Story 5" title. Rather than risking the project being judged as the next major chapter after Toy Story 4, Disney could slightly re-edit and modify the film with new title cards and market it as a standalone side story or companion adventure instead of the next major chapter.

By using this "Save and Pivot" strategy, Disney and Pixar can still capitalize on the project's streaming life, continue merchandise and theme park opportunities, and protect their production investment while also respecting the emotional ending that Toy Story 4 already gave Woody and Buzz. The hard work of the animators would still be preserved, but the cinematic legacy of the original films would remain protected.

So yeah, let's encourage Disney and Pixar to reconsider formatting this project long-term as Toy Story 5 and instead utilize their future home media releases and all streaming platforms like Disney Plus to slightly re-edit and rebrand the film as Toy Story: Toys vs Tech — a separate spinoff film that respects the ending Toy Story 4 already delivered.
