The Issue
I was walking along FM 3405 in Georgetown, Texas, enjoying the fresh air and taking in the scenery, when suddenly a car sped by so close that I could almost feel the wind from its passing. My heart raced, and I couldn’t help but think about how it could have ended tragically. This area, once a quiet neighborhood road, has become increasingly dangerous with traffic volume seemingly quadrupling in recent years.
The current speed limit is posted at 55 mph, yet drivers often exceed this, reaching speeds of 60 mph or more. Every day, families, joggers, and wildlife like deer navigate this road, and it's clear that it's no longer safe for them, or any of us. The increasing number of houses being built only adds to the daily traffic, further amplifying this safety concern.
Deer often find it impossible to cross, and families, like mine, fear for our safety. A reduced speed limit to 45 mph would accommodate the changing dynamics of this road, adapting to the increased residential nature and the growing presence of both human and animal activities. Lowering the speed limit would help protect everyone who uses this road, making it safer for pedestrians, animals, and drivers alike.
We need to take proactive measures to prevent potential accidents and create a safer community for everyone. The time to act is now before an unfortunate incident happens that affects the lives of those we care about.
Please sign this petition to urge local authorities to lower the speed limit on FM 3405 to 45 mph, ensuring a safer environment for all who live in and travel through this area. Your signature can make a difference and lead to a safer Georgetown, TX.
