The Issue

Highway 11 near Campton Restaurant has become a significant safety concern due to vehicles moving at excessive speeds. Located in the heart of Georgia's Campton Community, Campton Restaurant is home to not only this beloved local eatery but also to many families and businesses dependent on safe road conditions. Recently, there have been multiple incidents where vehicles, unable to control their speed, have run into the building, causing both significant property damage and posing a danger to lives.

Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicate that speed-related crashes account for nearly one-third of all traffic fatalities nationwide, with rural areas like those surrounding Highway 11 being particularly vulnerable. The combination of high speed and local road conditions make accidents not just likely, but inevitable if action isn't taken urgently.

By reducing the speed limit on this particular strip of HWY 11, we can make a tangible difference in ensuring the safety of patrons, employees, and residents. The goal is simple: prevent further accidents and protect our community. Local authorities should immediately assess the current traffic patterns and evaluate the feasibility of implementing a stricter speed limit in this zone.

We urge the Georgia Department of Transportation to prioritize this request and immediately commence an official traffic study. The well-being of Campton Restaurant's residents and its visitors should not be compromised due to preventable road accidents.

Sign our petition to demand a safer HWY 11 and take the first step in protecting our cherished community. Together, we can make a difference and ensure no other vehicles run into our beloved restaurant.

While I agree that particular section of Hwy 11 should be addressed, it is more than 4 miles outside of the city limits of Monroe and is not in my purview. As it is a state highway and intersects a county road, your best bet would be to contact the Walton County Board of Commissioners and the GA Department of Transportation. Thank you! John S. Howard
