Change the recruitment process and Demand timely job offer responses from employers

The Issue

Have you or anyone you know applied for many jobs and not receiving an acknowledgement or have matched the skills employers are looking for but still unsuccessful? You're not alone.

An article I recently read, in the months September to November 2025, unemployment rose to its highest level since 2015. there's an estimated 1.84 million people aged 16+ are unemployed. They have increased by around 280,000 over the last year and the unemployment rate has increased 5.5%. (UK Labour market statistics)

Some of these my be due to various reasons, understandably. However, I reckon most of the rest are like me and applying to everything and anything, with the relevant skills and experience, yet still getting passed over. Now that AI and digitally checking applications.

Having applied to over 50 jobs this month alone, with high hopes and dedication, I faced an all-too-common issue: I received only 10 acknowledgments, and a painfully indefinite waiting period ensued for others. This exasperating lack of response from numerous employers leaves applicants in limbo, feeling undervalued and disregarded. How can we, job seekers who strive to offer our skills and talents, plan our lives and careers with such uncertainty? How can potential employers not show the basic courtesy of communicating decisions within a reasonable timeframe?

We propose a simple yet effective solution: a mandatory policy where employers respond to job applications within two weeks. Fresh graduates and seasoned professionals alike deserve clarity whether they should pursue other opportunities or look forward to the next step in their preferred career path. This not only respects the candidate's time and effort but also streamlines the recruitment process itself, promoting efficiency within the workforce.

Research shows that prolonged hiring processes can deter top talent by up to 26%, leading companies to miss out on highly qualified candidates. By ensuring timely communication, both employers and candidates can benefit from an efficient, respectful, and humane hiring process. Such a policy could be easily implemented by HR departments through automated systems for acknowledgement and rejection emails. The time is now—a simple shift in policy can positively impact many lives and increase workplace satisfaction on both ends.

Join us in making a stand for the future of job applications. Let's urge companies to implement a two-week maximum response time for job offers—one small step towards a more efficient and humane hiring process. Sign and help us create a workforce culture where everyone feels valued and informed.
