Change the Princes Hwy to the Yuin Hwy. YUIN NATION: YUIN HIGHWAY
The issue
Where it traverses the Yuin Nation, the Princes Highway's name should be changed to the Yuin Highway. It was named after Prince Edward (UK) who visited here in 1920 and, as King Edward VIII, he abdicated the throne and formed potentially dangerous allegiances with Germany at a very vulnerable time for the United Kingdom.
History shows Edward was a traitor and a racist. This man’s legacy is incompatible with the values of modern Australia. He abdicated his royal responsibilities, consorted with Hitler, expressed sympathy for Nazi Germany’s dominance of Europe, and made racist and offensive remarks in letters to his UK mistress about Aboriginal people during his Australian tour. To continue celebrating him on a major public road is disrespectful to history and community.
The Yuin people are the Traditional Custodians of the South Coast, and the highway traverses Yuin Country from the Shoalhaven River to Victoria. The time has come to recognise the true heritage and living culture of the South Coast of New South Wales. Besides, this part of NSW is far too beautiful and precious to be marred by having a memorial to this man running through it. It is inappropriate to have a major highway named after this man who did NOTHING for this country and was disrespectful.
YUIN NATION: YUIN HIGHWAY...a perfect and popular solution. We need 10,000 signatures to be able to make this happen. Please SIGN and SHARE.
