Piscataway High School is a large and diverse school. Despite this, it continues to uphold racism and anti-Indigenous sentiments.

Our mascot is a Native man with war paint smeared on his cheek and a feather headdress. We scream "Go Chiefs!" for our sports teams. Even our logo is a P with an arrow through it, a small feather attached to the arrow. 

Indigenous people have said time and time again why Native mascots are harmful. It's dehumanizing- Indigenous people aren't catchphrases for us to cheer at games- they're real people. Native mascots stereotype Indigenous people as war-like when they simply aren't. 

Teachers and students at Piscataway have talked about how racist the mascot is- we've had large class conversations about it. Despite this, the mascot still hasn't changed. 

Enough is enough. Change the Piscataway High School logo, mascot, and slogan.
