Change the notice period to one month

The Issue

In today's fast-paced job market, the rigidity of long notice periods is becoming a significant barrier for many professionals, including myself. I am personally affected by this as I've struggled to secure a job due to what's perceived as inflexibility in leaving my current position. Like many job seekers, I find myself in a paradox where serving a lengthy notice period is frowned upon, yet being ready to join immediately raises suspicions. This contradictory stance leaves many of us in an unfair bind.

The issue is widespread and affects countless employees who are trapped in a cycle of criticism. Serving a 90-day notice period is viewed as excessive by most employers, while a 60-day period also raises eyebrows. Even a 30-day notice period doesn't accommodate the urgency often required by hiring companies looking for immediate joiners. It’s a baffling scenario where even when someone is ready to join immediately, they are suspected of leaving without an offer, which labels them as a "red flag."

Statistics show that in many countries, a one-month notice period is common practice, providing a balance that respects both the needs of the employer and the employee. A shift to a standard one-month notice period allows for a considerate transition without compromising the employee's chances of securing new employment opportunities. Furthermore, it eradicates the stigma of being branded "not flexible" or "suspicious," fostering a healthier job market where prospective employees and employers can engage openly and honestly.

By reducing notice periods to a uniform one month, we can create a more consistent and fair employment landscape. This change will benefit not only job seekers but also companies by streamlining hiring processes and reducing the anxiety and uncertainty that come with longer notice periods. It's time to make a change that reflects the realities of today’s job market.

Sign this petition to urge companies and lawmakers to standardize notice periods to a one-month maximum. Let's work together to remove these barriers and promote a fairer, more efficient job market.
