Change the national education system
The Issue
I am a student with dreams of studying at one of India's prestigious IITs, but the path is filled with obstacles due to the current education system. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) are gateways to some of the most sought-after educational institutions in India, yet they are notorious for being extraordinarily tough and vastly competitive. Having come from a government school and prepared for these exams online from home, I found myself unable to secure a slot in my desired college, resorting instead to a smaller local college.
The pressure these exams create is immense, and they often privilege those who have access to extensive private coaching resources. This imbalance in opportunity narrows the educational prospects for many talented and capable students across India.
We need a fairer system where the pressure of success isn’t solely determined by high-stakes exams that demand enormous resources. I propose that these exams be administered regionally, allowing students from different states to compete within their context, reducing stress and levelling the playing field for all students regardless of their socio-economic background.
Creating a system where students can showcase their abilities through continuous assessment and regional competitions encourages a more inclusive educational environment.
I implore the Ministry of Education and examination boards to reconsider how these entrance exams are structured and implemented. Through reforms that decentralize testing and provide a more holistic evaluation criterion, we can ensure that every student has a fair chance at pursuing their academic dreams leading to an equitable and prosperous nation.
Please sign this petition to call for necessary changes in India's educational system that prioritizes student well-being and equal opportunities for all to achieve academic excellence.
