Change the Name of Delhi's "Chelmsford Club"

The Issue

Chelmsford Club located at the Raisina road, New Delhi, is one of the oldest and elite clubs of India. Here are a few facts about Chelmsford, that you need to know before signing this petition:

During British rule in India, Lord Chelmsford’s tenure as Governor of India was during 1916-1921. Rowlatt Act was passed under his governance, which lead to the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre in Amritsar, Punjab on 13 April, 1919. Many innocent people were killed due to open firing by troops, on the orders of Brigadier General Reginald Dyer.

Few years after this bloodshed, Chelmsford Club was raised in the national capital of India, on 28 July, 1928. It raises a question on all the sacrifices made by our great freedom fighters and their families, to free India from the forceful occupation by Britishers.

The time has come when we as proud Indians should take the much-needed steps to change the name of this club. We are not going to forgive these criminals who bled India during British Raj. I request you all, to sign this petition and share this as much as possible to make our voices heard. Let’s not celebrate these British criminals anymore and get the name of this club changed, as a token of tribute to our great freedom fighters.
