Marquette Senior High School's start time for school days is 7:30 AM. This is earlier than all of the surrounding towns' start times and is a time that is very hard for commuting students to accommodate. On top of that, many students get here even earlier for other reasons such as working at the coffee shop, making up tests, getting a parking spot, eating breakfast, etc. While it has its advantage of getting out of school earlier, it is hard for students to accurately learn and obtain information when they are averaging 6 hours of sleep per night. Students usually have hours of homework, jobs, sports, and other prior engagements after school that they have to complete on top of getting a good night's rest. If the start time changes, school administration, teachers, parents, and students will all see differences in behaviors and grades. This would be an important change because it would be extremely beneficial in students mental health, actions, knowledge, and behaviors.
