Change the Lighting in Mother Hill Reading Room

Change the Lighting in Mother Hill Reading Room
The Issue
This is a petition to challenge the new bright fluorescent lights in the Mother Hill Reading Room.
The Mother Hill Reading Room is a beloved study spot for students of the University of San Diego. From the charming wooden book shelfs to the lovely lamps, the warm and inviting hall is a cozy sanctuary for students looking to study. Often referred to as the "Harry Potter room" by students, the Mother Hill Reading Room is an iconic spot on campus.
Recently, the light bulbs in the reading room have been replaced with bright fluorescent lightbulbs. The space now lacks the warm and nostalgic ambience it once provided to students. The room now feels sterile and uninviting. Before the change, this room was unique from any other room in the library because the yellowish dim lighting served as a nice escape from the bright modern atmosphere of the rest of the Copley Library. Many students have expressed negative reactions to the new change. There has been a significant decrease in the amount of students that utilize this reading room.
As library-loving students of USD, we kindly request that the lighting would be reverted back to the lightbulbs that emulated warmth, coziness, and nostalgia.
