Change the laws to make it harder for cities to kill dogs.

The Issue

Dear Legislators,

It is time to change the laws and make it harder for cities to kill dogs. The current system allows for too many innocent dogs to be put down without proper justification.

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), approximately 670,000 dogs are euthanized in shelters every year in the United States. This number is far too high and can be reduced with better laws and regulations.

Many cities have outdated policies that allow animal control officers to euthanize dogs based on breed or behavior, rather than evaluating each dog individually. This leads to unfair treatment of certain breeds and unnecessary deaths of well-behaved dogs.

Furthermore, many cities do not provide adequate resources for stray or abandoned dogs, leading them straight into shelters where they are at risk of being put down. By implementing programs such as low-cost spay/neuter clinics and increased funding for animal rescue organizations, we can reduce the number of homeless animals in our communities.

It is time for our lawmakers to take action and create stricter laws that protect our furry friends from unjustified euthanasia. We urge you to consider these changes and help us create a safer world for all animals.

Sincerely,

Sheri Smith
