In light of the current media attention on the Flashmob and Petition, while welcoming all the coverage and public support, 3S would like to make clear the following: Our Petition to change the law on domestic violence is also not about one particular case, it is about all the other cases it represents - and about the similar experiences of victims across the Island who have all been let down by the system. It is about the need to change the law and to change attitudes. Saturday's Flash mob is not a protest march; it is a family-friendly event and we will be singing the family-friendly lyrics. Nor is the Flashmob connected to the particular case recently in the news – it is part of International “I Can’t Keep Quiet Day” and we have been planning taking part in the #ICantKeepQuiet movement since the end of last year. The song, “Quiet” has been sung on this day around the world at 1pm to encourage people to feel supported and to join victims together in unity. We would ask that all attendees/participants at the Flashmob tomorrow and all signatories to the Petition refrain from comments on any particular case and have respect for the families involved. This event should be respectful, dignified, and should make a serious point but in an enjoyable way. #ICantKeepQuiet is a supportive community with the slogan, “when we harmonise, we cannot be divided”. Please join in this same supportive, peaceful and respectful spirit. Thank you. And let’s enjoy tomorrow!
