It's a lovely sunny morning today, unlike the dismal wet conditions we had for the flashmob, and with the sunshine has come our 2,000th signature! Thank you so much to everyone who has supported this campaign, left their comments; shared the Petition. Special thanks to all those who turned out for the #ICan'tKeepQuiet flashmob on Saturday and made a great sound, despite the weather. Also a big thank you to the MHKs who turned out on the rain to join us and show their support: Minister Bill Malarkey, Dr. Alex Allinson, Daphne Caine, Ann Corlett and MLC Tanya August Hanson. Clare Bettison was also "with us in spirit" and sent her apologies. We really appreciate the political support and are delighted that Minister Malarkey's Department are drafting a new Bill, and that this will go out to Public Consultation in May/June. Please take that opportunity to comment on the Legislation and have your voice and experience input into the final Bill. Hopefully this petition plus #ICantKeepQuiet is the beginning of bringing this issue out from behind closed doors and from "under the carpet" into something that people talk about, so that at last we can see change, and justice, support and understanding for victims. We hope to participate in #ICan'tKeepQuiet Day every year, possibly taking it to a different town on the Island each year. We are also planning another, bigger flashmob using a different song, in summer weather. We will also be making a short film with a positive message about speaking out about domestic abuse. If you would like to participate with either project please get in touch! Meanwhile, keep talking about domestic abuse, keep talking about the Petition - 2,000 is amazing! - thank you for your support.
