The current state anthem of Iowa is old, outdated, and boring. “The Song of Iowa” by S. H. M. Beyers was written over 100 years ago and does not accurately reflect the people of the state , which i feel is what a state anthem should do. I propose we change the state anthem to the song “Iowa” by Slipknot. 

Slipknot is an internationally renowned metal band from the heart of Iowa, and they’ve written several songs relating to the state, and their fifth studio album is titled “Iowa”. The band is a huge part of midwest culture and is very near and dear to specifically the people of Iowa. Many people here have personal relationships with band members, and even more people have stories about them from concerts, random meetings, and so much else. 

The song “Iowa” by Slipknot is a better fit for the new state anthem than any other song i could possibly think of. It represents the culture, the people, and the feeling of being in Iowa much better than “The Song of Iowa” and should replace the current anthem as soon as possible so we can put our best foot forward to welcome all people coming through or moving in.
