This appeal emerges from a deeply personal commitment to protect our children and their future. The urge to reconfigure the age of consent laws is not an abstract ideal but a measure based on the conviction that more can be done to safeguard our children. I believe educating individuals about the lapse in moral judgment reflected in such predatory behaviors is the most potent weapon we possess. Opening the eyes of the public to the wrongs committed against children is a challenging task, yet necessary. Children may have an aspect of maturity, but it's our responsibility to ensure they have a safe environment in which to thrive and map out a brighter, more assured future.

The aim is to revise the age of consent to 21 across all states, eliminating any close-in-age exemptions. While it seems like an audacious goal, the reality of child exploitation paints a troubling picture that warrants this action. In 2018, more than 34,800 cases of child exploitation were reported in the US alone (US Department of Justice). Increasing the age of consent would act as a deterrent by imposing stiffer penalties on individuals who engage in sexual acts with individuals who are not legally capable of giving consent.
