Change the cellphone policy in Virginia schools
Change the cellphone policy in Virginia schools
The Issue
In Virginia, the current cellphone policy in schools substantially limits students from using their mobile devices during school. We want to advocate for cellular use during non-instructional periods.
The use of cellular devices during cafeteria and other non-instructional hours could assist those who are looking to further their Education and those who want to make the most out of their time during the so 25-30 minutes of cafeteria time in which is given to them.
This time could be key for students perhaps could have missing homework or assignments and they could use this time to help them catch up and even progress further.
Furthermore, for those who may not use this time effectively or as intended, this time could sort of help them as a brain break time, to reset before going to the next class, it could also help those with social anxiety.
According to a report by the Pew Research Center, 95% of teenagers in the United States own or have access to a smartphone, suggesting that phone restrictions, could restrict a lot of students from attempting to better themselves as this could be a good time to connect or even studying.
My recommendation would be for the advocacy of intellectual use of cellular devices and the promotion of the responsible use of cellular devices as a means of learning more and not “rotting your brain.”
