Change the block schedule at Judkins Middle School

Change the block schedule at Judkins Middle School
The Issue
I am a student at Judkins Middle School, and like many of my peers, I am frustrated with the current block schedule. The system divides our day into three long classes, each lasting 1 hour and 35 minutes. This format makes school feel tedious and unenjoyable, with many of us finding it hard to maintain focus and stay engaged for such extended periods.
For students, long classes can be exhausting and can lead to decreased motivation and a negative attitude towards learning. Studies show that attention spans in children average between 10 to 20 minutes, far less than the current class time. With classes that are multiple times longer than our attention span, how can meaningful learning occur? Instead of fostering educational success, the block schedule is hindering it.
A shift back to having 45-minute classes with six periods a day could significantly improve our learning experiences. This schedule aligns better with our attention spans and gives us varied daily experiences that can make school more dynamic and stimulating. In addition, shorter classes mean more transitions, offering opportunities for physical movement and resetting mentally for the next topic. These frequent breaks could enhance focus and engagement, making better use of our school hours.
We need your support to bring this change to Judkins Middle School. If you believe in helping students have a more vibrant and effective learning environment, please sign this petition. Your signature will advocate for education that truly supports student needs and capacities.
