Change the alignment of Kerala's Coastal Highway to Preserve Beaches of Thottada,Kizhunna

Change the alignment of Kerala's Coastal Highway to Preserve Beaches of Thottada,Kizhunna

The Issue

We the residents of Kuruva, Kadalayi, Thottada, Kizhunna and Ezhara in Kannur district( Kerala) live on or around these beaches.  These are not just one of Kerala’s most beautiful stretch of beaches, but it is also a crucial habitat for an exquisite array of endangered wildlife, making it a beacon for tourists, both foreign and domestic. However, our paradise is now under threat from unnecessary development that disregards its ecological importance.

The government of Kerala plans to construct a coastal highway that would devastate our ecosystem. This would gravely impact the pristine Thottada, Kizhunna and Ezhara beaches - home to a treasured and vulnerable species, the Olive Ridley turtles, who make these beaches their nesting grounds. Moreover, this region is among the few habitats left for the endangered Malabar civet cat and several endangered migratory birds.

Constructing this highway would also negatively impact tourism, a significant contributor to Kerala's economy and the local economy. If we allow such development, the unique draw for tourists to appreciate nature at its best form shall be damaged beyond repair.

It is our responsibility to protect these wildlife habitats and to preserve the serenity and pristine condition of these beaches. We cannot sit idle and watch our home being destroyed. We urge the government of Kerala to reconsider its plans for the coastal highway, and instead look into sustainable alternatives that won't compromise our nature's sanctity and biodiversity.

Please join us and sign our petition. Your voice can make a difference. Save Kerala's beaches, save our wildlife, and save our home.

This is the plea of a local resident and the echo of nature calling you for help. Let's stand against this ecological disaster. Sign the petition today.
