A city in CORPUS CHRISTI, TX has since took pride and ownership of a “cotton picking” mascot which is widely known for the forced labor on African-American peoples for centuries in the United States. To claim otherwise is pure ignorance which should be put back into K-12 educational learning to perhaps grow more empathy and human morality. In this time period this is distasteful and quite frankly embarrassing on your part Texas. Embrace this change as there should be no reason to highlight this “picker”, with this behavior of your shrined mascot I’d hope reparations were and are being prepared for the African-American generation of today. To take pride over being paid unfair work wages from the white man on the Latino for a living, sure it put food on the table but they still undervalued us. If we remember, Latinos faced also segregation in scale, had been called wetbacks by American President Harry Truman. This is manipulation at its finest do not eat this up, our ancestors were killed for money and land. We were forced to work for pennies because we weren’t given the same wage and opportunity of the open arms country the capitol likes to project! They force DACA students away just some years ago, so how much does this country care for the paid and unpaid cotton pickers? Take your power back for this school and for your country.
