Why this petition matters

Started by Nadiya Daniels

We are all aware of the previous situation in which occurred on the night of Monday February 7, 2022. Two students were detained at the campus with what was said to be "irate" behavior, due to a misunderstanding over the loss of a wallet. In the video you see a young woman, a Clarkette, being detained by 3 large male police officers. They said "stop resisting" and she clearly states "I'm not resisting!".

Although the semantics and conditionals are unclear, and quite insignificant; the larger picture must be seen and something MUST BE DONE. As students and women on the campus of Clark Atlanta University we are consistently overlooked even though women cover the masses of the campus. We must stand for what we want and what we need to ensure the betterment and safety of the women on this campus.

Signing this petition entails the agreement to three very important requests from the University:

1. Develop and hire more women representation in the police department on campus.

2. Provide proper training to current and new on-campus police.

3. Require a review of campus guidelines and handbooks by all faculty especially members of the police department. Also enforce this as a requirement for any positions as faculty on campus.
