Souderton High School has yet to change their racially insensitive title from “the fighting Indians”. This not only promotes oppressive behavior towards Native Americans, but it projects an unfair view that the Souderton students and residents believe that the title is justified. It is recorded that about 0% of the Souderton Area High School students are Native American, furthering the insensitivity of the label. Despite this, the school continues to sell “Souderton Indians” merchandise and profit off of a historically oppressed minority. My fellow students and I have decide to “be the change” and stand up for what’s right. Help us to right this wrong and create a more welcoming and safe environment for all.
