The summer holidays are too long, most parents & even their children would say this. In today's world 6 weeks off in the summer is not feasible. Children get bored, parents get fed up. It is time for a rethink & a conversation in Parliament to change this.

It is perceived that 6 weeks off over the summer was so children could help out in the fields. Well in todays society child labour is illegal & it is no longer productive for family life to endure. 

The school year typically involves around 13 weeks allocated to school holidays.

In the current set up, you can tell when children have had enough, around week 5 they are tired & cranky & ready for a break. 

Therefore, I proposed a change:

4 weeks in school, then 1 week off. 

Maybe an extra week at Easter or Christmas? At school discretion. Different districts having different weeks off.

This would stop holiday companies hiking prices during summer & spread costs over the whole year. I believe it would support working parents, benefit society, improve family life, improve children's learning behaviours & attendance.
