For years, my dog Summer has been my constant companion during volleyball games and sunny days at ATX Beach in Austin, Texas. The joy and excitement in her eyes as she races round the courts inspire not only me but also countless other pet lovers who frequent this vibrant community spot. However, recent rule changes now prohibit dogs, turning a place of happiness into a somber reminder of cherished memories no longer able to be made.

ATX Beach has always been more than just a volleyball court to those of us who visit with our pets; it has been a haven where animals and their owners connect with nature and each other. Unfortunately, the current regulations preclude many from fully enjoying this public space, as leaving our dogs behind disrupts these important experiences and undermines the essence of our community's bond.

We understand and appreciate the concerns about safety and cleanliness. However, solutions do exist that allow us to enjoy this space with our furry friends while maintaining the courts safety and cleanliness. Let's explore options like designated dog-friendly hours or establishing a specific dog area near the courts that is more than just a pen. Moreover, we propose using a portion of the field next to the court to develop an expansive, adequately maintained dog park, ensuring safe playtime for dogs and peace of mind for visitors.

Communities flourish when they are inclusive and accommodating. By revisiting and revising these current restrictions, we can foster an environment at ATX Beach that caters to the diverse needs of its patrons, building a more dynamic and welcoming space.

In order to implement these changes, we urge local officials and stakeholders to consider this heartfelt request and work collaboratively with the community to find mutually beneficial compromises. Allowing dogs back on ATX Beach—and possibly creating a dedicated area for them—will restore the courts as a destination of joy and camaraderie.
