My life was forever altered when my baby was taken from me by the scourge of domestic violence. This tragedy was compounded by the failure of the very systems that are supposed to support us—the resource organizations in Brandon, Manitoba. They profess a commitment to community care, yet their actions tell a different story. They leave families like mine to grapple with grief in isolation. They claim "every child matters," but do they genuinely support those families in crisis?

In the wake of this heartbreaking event, the need for more effective and compassionate resources in our community has never been more clear. The Brandon Friendship Center, a purported pillar of support, is in dire need of human resources (HR) interventions. If HR protocols and proper oversight were present in their operations when my tragedy unfolded, there would have been mechanisms in place to ensure accountability and effective support.

The systems in place have failed us. We need a comprehensive overhaul to ensure no other family suffers the way mine has. Every member of our community deserves access to responsive, empathetic, and effective support services, especially in times of crisis.
