As you all probably know Australia has some of the most restrictive and unfair vehicle modification policies in the world. 

The goal of this petition is to get these laws “loosened up and more flexible” so 4wd enthusiasts can modify their car without the police harassing and defecting them over the most small and pathetic things which is becoming more and more common.

 

What we’d like to see change in the rules & regulations is tire sizes, lifts and wheel tracks.  

TIRE SIZES

The 50mm tire size increase is unfair towards some 4wds especially with the ones that come with “cheese cutters” (skinny tires) from the factory. 

 

What we’d like to see change is the maximum tire size increased from 50 to 75mm for short wheelbased vehicles only eg: suzuki jimny. providing it passes engineering and meets all other road worthy requirements for example tires not poking beyond the guards and mud flaps no more than 300mm from the ground etc. 

 

For Longer Wheel Based Vehicles (most utility vehicles and and wagons). We would like to see the maximum tire size be changed to any 325/xx/xx and any 35”/xx.x”/xx” this being under the conditions that the vehicle passes engineering (swerve test) and meets all other requirements as stated above. 

A new modification code number will be required for this eg. (TSI2) “tire size increase 2”

SUSPENSION

Pre ESC Vehicles

 

Suspension and ride height increased to a maximum of 6” (suspension and body lift must not exceed 6” (4” Suspension and 2” body lift) being the maximum increase for each component. - This 6” Total lift becomes “Mod Plate’Able”

ESC Vehicles

Suspension and ride height increased to a maximum of 5”  (suspension and body lift must not exceed 5” ( 3” Suspension and 2” body lift) being the maximum increase for each component. This 5” Total lift becomes “Mod Plate’Able” 

WHEEL TRACK 

We ask for any further increase / decrease in a vehicles wheel track be allowed so long as it passes engineering and is deemed safe by said engineer. 

All these modifications combined must meet all current vehicle requirements (disregarding the old lift, tire and track increase/ Decrease) 

We would really like to see this happen even if it means: 

Adding a high clearance vehicle option to our “driver’s licence” eg where you must undergo some sort of corse to obtain this licence and prove you have the ability and knowledge to be able to drive “high clearance vehicles” 

or

Previsional 1/2 and learner license holders not being allowed to drive anything over the current vehicle modification rules.
