Change Police Training to Protect All Abuse Victims — Not Just Physical Ones

The Issue

When I was a minor, I turned to the police for help after suffering abuse. Instead of being protected, my experience was brushed off as a “lover’s tiff.” Because there were obvious bruises, my pain wasn’t taken seriously. This failure is not unique — it happens to countless victims of abuse who are dismissed simply because it can be considered as lack of evidence and or victim shaming.

The problem: Police training still largely focuses on physical evidence of abuse. This leaves victims of emotional, psychological, and coercive control vulnerable, unheard, and unsupported.Brain washed for all genders thinking all forms of abuse is totally okay because the law says it is fine.

What needs to change:

We are calling for immediate reform of police training protocols so that:

Officers are trained to identify all forms of abuse — not just physical signs.
Victims are listened to and believed when they report abuse.
Police receive ongoing education on trauma, coercive control, and subtle patterns of harm.
Support services are made available immediately after victims come forward.

The goal: To create a justice system that protects every victim, empowers survivors to rebuild their lives, and holds abusers accountable regardless of the type of abuse.

Please sign this petition to demand urgent reform in police training. Together, we can ensure no victim is ever dismissed or silenced again.
