Change Orlando International Airport's Call Sign from MCO to ORL

The Issue

As a native of Floridian, I and many others recognize ORL as the abbreviation for Orlando more than MCO. It is a matter of local pride, identity, and convenience. Currently, the Orlando International Airport is designated as MCO, a remnant from its former name as the McCoy Air Force Base. However, it no longer reflects the identity of our thriving city and could often lead to confusion for tourists and newcomers.

Considering that in 2019, Orlando International Airport handled 50.6 million passengers becoming the busiest airport in the state of Florida and the 10th busiest in the US (according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics), correct identification should be a priority.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) enables changes to three-letter location identifiers which MCO is one of, so a change to ORL is feasible.

By adopting ORL as the call sign, not only will our identity and regional symbolism be harmonized but it will also provide greater consistency and alleviate potential confusion, adding to better travel experiences.

I urge you, as friends, neighbors, and residents who resonate with the essence of this cause, to please sign this petition. Let's put ORL on the map, literally and figuratively!
