Hello, I am Logan Bueckert. I'm 17 and I am finishing my last year in Warman high school. I'm writing this to inform, to bring knowledge, and to try and put a stop to this disgusting sport. In may 2007 a new law was formed against dog fighting called the Animal Fighting Prohibition Enforcement Act, the act made dog fighting a felony under federal law and instituted maximum penalties of 250,000 dollars and up to 3 years in prison, unfortunately even with those incredible dues, people continue to abuse dogs, abuse the law, and continue to worsen the communities.

In a 2016 court case, one man was prosecuted for running a nationwide dog fight ring from Albuquerque, New Mexico. This was an organized ring with videos, photos and unfortunately even magazines. The dog ring involved pit bulls raised and trained to fight for this. According to a 2017 court document, the FBI seized “14 pit bull type dogs, about 1,000 photos of other dogs, dogfighting videos, books and magazines, and they also found steroids, syringes, and IVs containing canine blood, Continuing on the subject of drugs in this “sport”, people training these dogs may use steroids on the dogs to increase their muscle, the owners may also place toxic substances to try and harm the opposing dog, and the dogs aren't the only ones with drugs, according to Dallas news in 2004, “70% of animal abuse/ cruelty arrests were also convicted of drug related crimes.” they also state that “out of 43 searches all but one had drugs.” This is absolutely revolting and this needs to be further discussed for laws and thought about as a community and made sure that if someone sees something, report it as this is the best thing we can do to stop this bloodsport in its tracks. 

The signs of a “fighting” dog includes a short thick chain keeping the dog held up, the dogs ears looking cut off or tail cut off, house with training equipment such as a dog treadmills, spring poles, catmills, and makeshift rings. 

If you see any of these signs or think you see something suspicious, report it! You can report anonymously if you are anxious.

If you're reading this and think it is not a big deal, that is very false because, this is animal cruelty, animal abuse, and if you think this is excusable please rethink what you are doing, when you see a dog do you not think of a family pet, not a fighting machine, all dogs want to do in life is be humans best friend so they will obey. So if you put them through that they will likely do it even when they are half dead laying on the ground barely able to breathe so please let's put an end to this madness and end this horrifying sport of temporary gain, and the death of thousands of dogs all over the world.

What you can do to help,

Report suspected people of dog fighting: this will let the authorities take care of the problem momentarily supporting the community and hopefully will catch and stop the next fight.     

Spread the word: spreading the word of dogfighting will help knowledge in your communities encouraging reports and stopping the spread of this evil sport

Sign this petition: possibly the easiest way for our voice to be heard about this topic and hopefully proper authorities will see this and write new and improve rules about dog fighting
