Some K-pop watchers have raised the possibility that the Chinese members could not adjust to the K-pop scene’s idol training system. There have long been concerns that foreign trainees could find it hard to adapt to the Korean training system, which involves cramming would-be singers into a dorm and putting them through a hectic schedule of demanding practice sessions. 

But SM raised speculations that there may be a certain pattern among the defections by Chinese idols. 

For example SM Entertainment has been accused by NCTzens of mistreating NCT Dream‘s Renjun from not allowing him to say Winwin‘s (chinese member in nct and wayv) name to leaving him unaccompanied in the rain.

Rather than putting in the effort to harness these artists’ full potential, SM exploits their ties to China as a selling point: this is often seen through Chinese artists being placed in subunits designed to sell SM’s music in China. There doesn’t seem to be a long-term plan to keep non-Korean artists with the company after the contracts expire, and so there is little action to enable the artists’ growth and stability as public icons in Korea, despite the artists supposedly being K-pop idols.
