Change ordinances on number of animals your allowed to own
Why this petition matters

Our country is in crisis. Mass overpopulation of dogs and cats due to over breeding. The shelters are overcrowded and euthanizing animals at an alarming rate, and rescues are overwhelmed. Hearts of animal lovers everywhere are breaking for these animals with no where to go. We are giving up, and feeling defeated, watching so many innocent lives being taken on a daily basis.
But there is something we can do. Most cities have ordinances that determine the maximum number of animals you are permitted to keep on your property. For most cities, these ordinances usually limit a person to only keep 2-4 dogs on any property. These laws do not account for the amount of land a person owns. They do not care if you live on a 1/4 acre or on 20 acres, you are still only permitted 2-4 dogs, and the only way you can have more id by dishing out thousands of dollars of a kennel permit (how many 501.3c rescues do you you know that can afford to drop thousands of dollars on paperwork, when they have to choose between the paperwork and the vet bill for the dog that got hit by a car?)
These ordinances should not be judged by the city you live in, but by the amount of land you you own. If a person with only a 1/4 acre of land can legally own 4 dogs, then why can someone with 10 + acres not be allotted to be able to keep more animals? If they have the financial capability to care for them, the land space and containment ability, and the ability to keep them from being a nuisance, why can someone with 10 acres of land not own 20 dogs if they chose? As long as they are propey cared for then who does it hurt? No one. But it helps ALOT. There are many animal lovers who would gladly adopt 1-2 more dogs if they were legally able to. There are many animal lovers who have land and would gladly house a large number of animals on their property if they were legally able to.
The laws need to change EVERYWHERE. Ordinances for the number of animals owned needs to be based on property size not city limits. There are thousands of animals that could be saved by this one simple change. The shelters are overflowing, and there are so many people who would gladly foster or adopt them if they were permitted to keep more animals on their property.
