Our community is deeply concerned about the current state of affairs at St Joseph Federation in Wood End. As a parent of a child in this school, I have witnessed firsthand how the environment has become increasingly toxic for both staff and students. This situation cannot continue, and we need change to ensure our children receive the education and support they deserve.

St Joseph Federation has been accepting an increasing number of students with additional needs, yet has failed to provide the adequate resources and support required to cater to these children effectively. As a result, the teachers are overwhelmed, with administrative staff being forced to act as teaching assistants. This unsustainable practice compromises the quality of education for all students.

Additionally, there are no Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans or discussions with parents about such plans, leaving many feeling ignored and marginalized in the decision-making process affecting their children. The current admission process disregards the capacities and well-being of the teachers, further exacerbating their workload and stress levels. Teachers and staff are being treated unfairly, and instances of bullying have been reported, contributing to a hostile and unproductive environment.

It is particularly distressing that the school is failing the very students who need careful attention – those with additional needs. By not providing tailored educational plans or sufficient resources, these children are not reaching their fullest potential, and their right to a fair and supportive education is being compromised.

We believe that a change in leadership is crucial for bringing about positive improvements. A new Head Teacher with a commitment to inclusivity, transparency, and fairness is essential to fostering a nurturing environment where both staff and students can thrive.
